Georgetown
ABOUT GEORGETOWN
Georgetown sits on the southwest side, just across the Little Ogeechee River, about eleven miles from downtown Savannah. It's a planned, covenant-governed community built mostly in the late 1970s and 1980s, with newer subdivisions added since, so you get a settled neighborhood that's still growing.
It's run by the Georgetown Community Services Association, which is part of why the place stays well-kept. The streets are clean, the parks get used, and there's a real sense that people look after it.
The homes cover a wide range, from modest starter-sized houses under 1,500 square feet to larger ones over 3,000. Several sub-communities have their own feel, including Rice Mill with its Lowcountry-style homes on bigger lots.
Construction runs from the 1970s up through brand-new builds, and prices stay among the more affordable in the area. It's one of the more accessible established communities on this side of town.
The Homes
Georgetown comes with real community amenities: pools, tennis and basketball courts, a clubhouse, and playgrounds, all maintained through the community association. Tom Triplett Community Park is right there too, with two pavilions, tennis courts, a freshwater fishing lake, a dog area, and a big playground.
For food, Carey Hilliard's is a longtime local spot for American fare and fresh seafood. The Abercorn corridor and other southside shopping are an easy drive, and I-95 and US-17 sit right at the edge of the neighborhood.
The Amenities & Character
Georgetown works well if you want a predictable, amenity-rich suburban community at a reasonable price. It's organized, quiet, and easy to live in, with the parks and pools doing a lot of the social lifting.
I-95 access makes commuting and travel simple, and Veterans Parkway runs straight toward the center of Savannah, about eleven miles out. Downtown, the southside, and Richmond Hill are all within easy reach.
The Lifestyle
Georgetown is served by the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System. Georgetown K-8 School covers kindergarten through eighth grade, and high schoolers attend Windsor Forest High. Because attendance boundaries shift from time to time, it's worth confirming the current zone for a specific address with the district.
