ABOUT SOUTHBRIDGE
Southbridge is an established golf community spread across about 1,400 acres on Savannah's west side, just south of I-16 and roughly twelve minutes from downtown. You turn in off Dean Forest Road, the pines close in, and the highway noise drops away behind the woods and lagoons.
The location is convenient. It sits near a major highway intersection, so the airport, the Pooler corridor, and Tybee's beaches are all a quick drive.
The Homes
There's a lot of range inside the gates. Ranch homes, traditional brick colonials, townhomes, villas, condos, and full estate properties, running anywhere from around 1,100 square feet up past 7,000. Most of it went up in the 1990s and early 2000s, with newer construction and custom builds filling in on the larger lots.
Lots go from a quarter acre up past an acre for some of the estate sites, and a lot of homes look straight out onto the golf course or the lagoon system. That kind of variety this close to the city is hard to find.
The amenities are the headline. The Southbridge Golf Club is an 18-hole Rees Jones course that opened in 1989, winding through the woods and lagoons. It's semi-private and non-equity, so membership stays flexible, and it comes with a pro shop, practice areas, the Georgia Golf Academy, and clubhouse dining. The racquet club adds clay and hard courts with a pro shop and lockers.
There's more beyond that: the Grand Lake Lodge and Spa with saunas and steam rooms, an aquatics center with lap lanes and a children's area, walking trails, catch-and-release lagoon fishing, a Women's Club, and a full calendar of community events. Everyday shopping at Berwick Marketplace, with Kroger and CVS, is right outside the gates.
The Amenities & Character
Southbridge is for people who want space, privacy, and resort-style amenities without an island price tag. The lagoons, the trees, and the golf set an easy, settled tone.
It's about twelve minutes to downtown, under forty-five to Hilton Head, and around thirty to Tybee. The Tanger Outlets in Pooler are close, and the highway access makes the rest of the region simple to reach.
The Lifestyle
Southbridge is served by the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System. The district is realigning attendance boundaries across Western Chatham for the 2026-27 school year, so the assigned schools for a given address are changing. Confirm the current zoning for a specific home with the district before you buy, and I'm glad to help you pull it.
