About Mayfair

Mayfair is the kind of neighborhood that reveals itself slowly. From the outside it looks like a tidy collection of brick ranch homes along shaded streets. Then you drive in past the big live oaks, see kids heading toward the pool, and notice neighbors waving from driveways, and the picture becomes clearer. This is a neighborhood with real roots, where the annual Memorial Day barbecue at the pool is a genuine event and where people tend to stay for a long time once they arrive.

Mayfair sits near Lake Mayer Park, one of southside Savannah's most popular recreation areas, giving residents walking-distance access to tennis and pickleball courts, a playground, a skatepark, a scenic fishing pier, and a lighted remote-control car track. It's an unusually rich set of green space amenities for a neighborhood at this price point.

The Homes

The housing stock is predominantly brick ranch-style homes built from the 1950s through the 1970s, with a few mid-century modern builds scattered throughout. Most homes offer three to four bedrooms and around 2,000 square feet, set back from the street on well-maintained lots. The streets have no sidewalks, which keeps the residential feel intact and the through traffic minimal. Most homes are original and have been well cared for. Prices typically range from $400,000 to $600,000.

The Amenities & Character

The members-only neighborhood pool is one of the last in Savannah with a high dive, and the local swim team has a long history of competing in the Coastal Swim League. Lake Mayer Park is a two-minute walk for many residents, with its open water, fishing pier, tennis courts, and green space. The Chatham County Aquatic Center and the Jennifer Ross Soccer Complex are nearby for additional recreation. Oglethorpe Mall, with a full range of retail and dining, is close. East Montgomery Cross Road connects directly to the Truman Parkway for a straightforward commute downtown.

The Lifestyle

Mayfair is community-oriented in a way that happens organically rather than by design. The pool, the park, and the local sports leagues pull people together throughout the year. It's a neighborhood where people who move in often end up staying far longer than they originally planned, which is usually the best sign a neighborhood can give you. Downtown Savannah is about 15 minutes. Tybee Island is under 30.

Schools

Mayfair is served by the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System. Jenkins High School, which serves the area for high school, is known for its School of Engineering program. Largo-Tibet Elementary and Isle of Hope School are among the public schools in close proximity, though zoning assignments vary by address. Always verify current assignments directly with the district before making decisions based on schools.

Two district magnet schools are also worth knowing about. Jacob G. Smith Elementary (pre-K through 5th grade) runs the only K-5 Latin World Language program in Georgia and is a National Blue Ribbon School. Esther F. Garrison School of Visual and Performing Arts (pre-K through 8th grade) is a nationally recognized arts magnet. Both admit students through district-wide application.

For private education, St. James Catholic School and Hancock Day School are both close by, with St. James essentially across the street from the neighborhood. Habersham School (pre-K through 12th grade), Calvary Day School, and Blessed Sacrament School are also within reach. Savannah Christian Preparatory School, Savannah Country Day School, Benedictine Military School, and St. Andrew's School round out the broader list of private options Savannah families regularly consider.
