Parkside

Midtown Savannah Neighborhood | Savannah, GA 31404 | Historic Bungalows Near Daffin Park

About Parkside

Parkside sits in Midtown Savannah, right along the south and west edges of Daffin Park, about 10 minutes from downtown. The name comes from that park, and after an afternoon here it makes sense. Mature tree canopy, brick bungalows with deep front porches, and a park that anchors the whole north side of the neighborhood. Truman Parkway is right there for a quick run east to the islands, and downtown is a straight shot in.

Most of Parkside was built between the early 1900s and the late 1960s, so the housing stock leans historic. You'll find Craftsman bungalows, American Foursquares, Cape Cods, minimal traditional homes, and mid-sized ranches. A lot of the homes have been carefully renovated, and there's newer infill construction mixed in, but the updates tend to respect the original character instead of erasing it.

The Homes

Daffin Park is the anchor, all 77 acres of it. It was designed in 1907 by John Nolen, a landscape architect who trained in the Frederick Law Olmsted tradition, and it shows: oak-lined walks, a fountain-anchored pond, a dog park, tennis courts, and a public pool. Grayson Stadium sits inside the park and has hosted baseball since 1941. It's now home to the Savannah Bananas. The Starland District is about two miles north, an easy bike ride to its coffee shops and restaurants. Target, Whole Foods, and Home Depot are less than a half-mile away, and Habersham Village is a short drive.

The Amenities & Character

There's a real rhythm to the place. An annual neighborhood-wide yard sale that pulls people in from across the city, dog walks through Daffin Park, Savannah Bananas games on summer nights, and a quick bike ride to Starland Yard on a Friday. Downtown Savannah is 10 minutes, the airport is 20, and Tybee is 25.

The Lifestyle

Parkside is served by the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System, which runs zoned neighborhood schools alongside district-wide magnet and choice programs, including the Esther F. Garrison School of Visual and Performing Arts and Savannah Arts Academy. Zoned assignments here run by street, so confirm the schools for any specific address with SCCPSS before you count on them.
