Talahi Island
ABOUT TALAHI ISLAND
Talahi Island sits just off Highway 80, between Savannah and Tybee, ringed by Turner Creek, the Bull River, and the wider Wilmington Island waterways. It's a quiet coastal community where the live oaks arch right over the streets. Talahi is said to mean "among the oaks," and one drive in tells you why.
The pace here is easy. Wide, shaded streets, water in nearly every direction, and a settled, lived-in feel. It's island living that's about ten minutes from downtown one way and the beach the other.
The homes are a mix: ranch styles in clapboard or brick, larger traditional homes with Neoclassical touches, split-levels, and newer Craftsman builds. The streets are wide and shaded, good for walking and biking even without sidewalks.
A lot of properties have private docks running out to Turner Creek or the Bull River, which is a big part of the draw. Waterfront and dock homes sit at the higher end of the range.
The Homes
The water sets the rhythm here. With Turner Creek and the Bull River right there, boating, fishing, and crabbing are everyday things, and plenty of homes launch straight from their own dock.
The Talahi Community Center gives the island a casual gathering spot with a basketball court and open green space, and Flying Fish Bar and Grill is the local pick for seafood by the water. A farmers market and Davis Produce cover the produce runs, and Highway 80 puts everyday shopping minutes away.
The Amenities & Character
Talahi runs on island time, and that's the appeal. It's unhurried and quiet without being far from anything.
Highway 80 connects straight to downtown Savannah, about eight miles west, and to Tybee's beaches, about ten miles east. You can be at the sand or in a downtown square in roughly the same amount of time, which is a rare thing to pull off.
The Lifestyle
Talahi Island is served by the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System, on the island feeder of Marshpoint Elementary, Coastal Middle, and Islands High. The district adjusts attendance boundaries from time to time, so it's worth confirming the current zone for a specific address with the district.
